Coming up like a Maxfield Parrish sunrise

That's a quote from a Fred Astaire movie, referring to a black eye. These pictures were taken from the top of a parking deck (hello, agoraphobia!), at sunset, though, but "going down like a Maxfield Parrish sunset" just sounded Wrong.

Obligatory librarian moment: Maxfield Parrish on wikipedia. Also, did you know there was a Fred Astaire Conference?

The Parrish-ness of these photos, and the fact that you recognized them as such, makes me very happy.

  3. Yeah, tewtall lack of nymphs and satyrs on the top of the parking deck too. Bummer.

  4. I will see your Maxfield Parrish and raise you a Remedios Varo, whom I had never heard of until today, when I saw a poster of "Exploration of the Source of the Orinoco River" in a colleague's office and thought, "That looks like something Aubrey would write about."
