It’s Those Cats!

Did you know Sally and Sukey starred in an ABC sitcom from 1968 to 1971? These were their title cards:

Sally played the motherly genius who secretly wrote romance novels to keep the family afloat, trying to spend her royalty checks without revealing where the money came from. Sukey played the happy go lucky dreamer who made wacky inventions like an oven cleaner made from cocoa and small steel nails. She got all the lines that made the live studio audience say "Awww."

Nickelodeon wanted to rebroadcast the series but all the tapes were lost in a suspicious Pepsi Light incident in 1978. The theme song is such an earworm it's been declared a Pernicious Artwork by the U. N., joining Monet's Waterlilies, big-eyed teary children (listed collectively), and that stupid song about writing your own book that's been on the radio for the past year and a half.

It's too bad we can't catch this in re-runs or on DVD! I'm bummed I missed the show – sounds way better than Gilligan's Island!

Peg, this needs a theme song:
"Here's the story of a lovely lady Who was bringing up two very lovely girls. Both of them had floofy fur like no other, No equal in the world. It's her story, and she is from Tilling, She's kept busy with these cats of her own, They're three ladies, living all together, In their own ways they all shone. One cat's frisky and the other's rather mellow But their perils always keep them off their mats The neighbors couldn't ignore them and so: It led them to exclaim why, It's Those Cats. It's Those Cats, It led them to exclaim why, It's Those Cats. It's Those Cats."

  4. You found our theme song! Thank you!
