Random Saturday items

This morning I woke up thinking it would be a Good Idea to start a red-hat-type society for aging English majors: their motto would be “Oh heck yeah I dare to eat a peach!”

Apparently fun fur is making a comeback:

My god you skinned three poodles! Barbarian!

If you are a doctoral candidate in the sciences you can Dance Your PhD (seriously, go look).

Holiday baking season has exploded–this is cake 1:

Yes those pecans are toasted.

It’s for a baby shower even though it’s not very babyish. When I made the icing I realized I didn’t have any vanilla, so I looked through the fridge and found a tiny bottle of real maple syrup that might have been liberated from Cracker Barrel, so I used that to flavor the icing. The cake is flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg and there’s orange marmalade and cheesecake-flavored pudding between the layers. I think I’ve stopped just short of One Flavor Too Many…

Coming up: cake with a carousel theme + 12 matching cupcakes; animal-themed baby shower cake (same baby); under-water themed cake for 50; office holiday party; possible cookie exchange. Fortunately the quality and detail orientation of my kitchen supervision has increased:

You don't know how to load this thing, do you?

Unfortunately more baking = less knitting, so the shower baby’s sweater didn’t get done (I’m on the sleeves. They were bad, so they’re in time out to think about what they’ve done) so for now the baby will have to be content with a hat:

Ready the dirigible, please.

I love everything about this post! 🙂 My DIL, Sarah, makes wonderful cakes and cookies and cupcakes, too!
It’s so fun to see what you guys come up with!
Reuben is my dishwasher supervisor. He’s so smart, he knows he can lick the plates when it’s dirty, but he knows to stand far back when it’s clean. 🙂

    Tortie is our dishwasher supervisor.

That baby hat doesn’t have any gears or goggles, so it won’t work on a dirigible.
