At the vet

What’s in there?

I hadn’t taken Edward to the vet before, so I didn’t know what to expect–he didn’t even need to be held when he had his temperature taken, but he hissed when he got shots in his flanks. He got a cortizone shot for his tail, in his scruff, but that didn’t bother him. The techs liked him. He weighs 12lbs 8.5oz.

Sukey came in at 15lbs something but she was weighed in her carrier so she’s probably pretty close to Edward. The vet was awesome–he put a towel over her when she got her shots then he picked her up around the middle and spun around while he felt up her belleh–it confused her so much she didn’t have time to swat. He said she had a heart murmur, and even graded it a five out of six, though that was maybe shaded a bit by stress. It’s not good news, but she doesn’t have any fluid retention or coughing, and there’s not much that could be done for her–elective surgery is right out, and if she ever needs to be sedated it would have to be done in a way that doesn’t stress the heart, but otherwise…it’s just a thing.

We’re home. Sukey’s a bit skittish but Edward’s hanging out in the window like nothing bad happened.

    What a fine, handsome cat!

Macaroon inspects the entire exam room, too. Nothing gets by her.

by golly, isn’t Sir Captain Edward a handsome handsome fellow.

ick about Sukey’s heart murmur…since surgery is out, the best to do is to keep her as stress-free as possible. and if that requires no more vet visits, I’m sure Sukey won’t be too devastated.

I think examining rooms for humans should have a jar of treats on the counter, too.

I LOL’d at the image of Sukey’s confusion at being spun around while the vet felt her up. 🙂 Hope she stays feisty and as healthy as she can.

And hope Sir E’s tail refloofifies soon, too!

No treats on the counter, but I had chocolate when I came home, for sure. The vet said it would probably be two weeks before we can see if the cortizone works on Edward’s tail.

    Look how fearless he is!

    The intrepid explorer, indeed.

Hugs for Sukey and Edward. Tashi has had a heart murmur for a while without any symptoms related to it. Hopefully Sukey’s will stay silent.

Edward is so brave to explore the exam room. Usually the Miao Brothers are fighting me to go back into their kitty carriers.
